Thank you for your interest in my literary works. There's much more to come!
When a mission went terribly wrong, Medal of Honor recipient, John "Chappy" Chapman, an Air Force Combat Controller, found himself alone on a desolate mountaintop in Afghanistan. He wasn't entirely alone, though. Two dozen or so enemy fighters were there, too ... intent on killing him. Instead of retreating to a hide spot, Chappy took the fight to his enemy ... on his terms, ultimately laying down his life for the 18 men he did not know in the rescue helicopter that was sent to rescue his team. In the end and including his five teammates, John is credited with saving the lives of 23 of his comrades.
"Alone at Dawn" introduces the world's most elite and deadly military force, Air Force Combat Controllers. They are true quiet professionals who do their jobs, not seeking glory, but intent on destroying the enemy. Not only are they badasses on the battlefield, they are also "first there" during catastrophic events. Air Force Combat Controllers are the deadliest of warriors AND peacetime heroes. No other Special Operations force has dual purpose.
Chappy's story is not unique. Many men and women have fought for their team and for their country. His story stands out because of the person he was; because he earned his rightful spot in the most elite forces in the United States armed forces; because he always put others first; and because he didn't set out to be a hero. He knew what was right and he did it, whether anyone was watching or not. In his final hours, thankfully, someone WAS watching: a drone that captured the truth of what happened on that mountaintop in Afghanistan on March 4, 2002; the truth that no one can deny.
